Fake Landlord Fraud Prevention 假房東詐騙防治
Fengshou Police Station reminds:
Common scam in renting: "You could pay first to have priority in viewing the house. " Paying first to get the priority in viewing the house? That's a scam! Do you know the common scam tactics? A college student saw an ideal house on a rental website. When contacting the landlord for a viewing, the landlord claimed the house was in high demand and requested "a deposit of $25,000 in advance to prioritize viewing." After the student sent the money, the landlord made a lot of excuses. Became unreachable on messaging apps, and without the landlord's real name and actual address, the victim had no way to seek redress.
Key to preventing scams: Any request for "payment" upfront is highly suspicious!
Do not pay anything before actually seeing the house!
